My good friend from high school Sokunta Henry invited me to DJ his wedding reception this past weekend. The wedding was held in Las Vegas at Emerald at Queensridge, a gorgeous venue about 20 minutes from the Vegas strip. Once I arrived I was blown away at how amazing the decor was inside of the reception hall…

Sokunta and Zahra each had their own cakes…Zahra had a traditional multiple tiered wedding cake, but Sokunta had to let his New Orleans Saints pride be on display on the most important day of his life…

The ceremony was held outside of the venue and went off without a hitch. Sokunta’s suit was sharp and Zahra’s dress was beautiful…

Once they were introduced after their cocktail hour, Sokunta and Zahra shared their first dance to “So High” by John Legend

Once the dancing began, the guests took to the floor as I mixed dance hits from today and yesterday…

Sokunta requested R. Kelly‘s “Step In The Name Of Love” and I just had to take to the floor and teach a few of the guests how to do the dance…

The evening wrapped up with Sokunta and Zahra speeding off in a shiny red Ferrari convertible putting a cap on a wonderful afternoon. Congratulations, Sokunta and Zahra!

I had the distinct pleasure of DJing and MCing the ceremony and reception of Jim and Nancy McGrath on Saturday, May 15, 2010. The wedding was held at the home of the Drivick Family in El Cajon. The pastor’s name was Charlie Thorn and he did an amazing job performing the ceremony. Once the ceremony was over, Jim and Nancy shared their first dance to “Endless Love” by Lionel Richie & Diana Ross. They then collected a lot of money for their money dance to assorted slow songs, upbeat songs and the very appropriate “For The Love Of Money” by the O’Jays.

Jim and Nancy submitted an amazing list through our online request system filled with songs ranging from the 60’s, 70’s and even a few 80’s and early 90’s hits. I invited the guests to feel free to request songs and many of them took me up on that offer. One guest requested “Dancing Queen” by Abba and I took that opportunity to call all the women to the floor to dance around Nancy. When that was over I invited Jim up to the floor and all of the guys to sing and play air guitar to “Wild Thing” by The Troggs.

One of the many highlights of the reception was having all of the family out on the dance floor singing and dancing to “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge.

Line dances were a big hit during the reception with “Electric Slide” and “Cupid Shuffle” drawing the biggest crowds. We ended the afternoon with “Last Dance” by Donna Summer complete with ballerina dance moves done by myself and a few of the other guests during the beginning of the song. I had an amazing time dancing, laughing and electric sliding with the guests and couldn’t think of a better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon. Congratulations, Jim and Nancy!
